"I'm engaged, so I just know things."
Sometimes I say that to my friends. I use this excuse for anything. For actual wedding things, for whether to turn left or right, for which cupcake tastes better. I'm not sure what my logic was when I came up with this phrasing. It just sounded good to me.
The phrase does not have any basis in reality, I actually don't know many things. As my last year at college progresses, I feel like I'm losing knowledge, I'm trying to stuff so much of it into my head. I feel like a sponge, soaking up info and then releasing it; onto papers, exams, splashing my knowledge into the void made up of grades.
But I know about weddings.
Wedding venues, etiquette, flowers, ceremonies, fashion. I can look at a wedding dress and give a fairly accurate estimate of what it costs. I can tell you if it's trumpet style, mermaid, or fit and flare. There comes a point in life when the things you're interested in can turn into either a vaguely creepy obsession or a hobby.
I decided to turn my love of all things weddings into a hobby. And not only because I'm engaged and planning my own wedding, I just love all things related to weddings. I love the lace, the silk, the flowers and lights. I love how unique each wedding is, how couples can celebrate their love for each other in such personal ways. I also love writing. As an English major, whose hobby is weddings, what better than a wedding blog?
My mother predicted that I would be the first to get married of all my siblings. I think I first heard this when I was four. As one of seven (With four sisters and two brothers), I was skeptical.
"Why do you think that?" I'd asked.
"I just do," she'd say.
Perhaps it was the fact that when playing weddings with my older sister April, I refused, point-blank, to be anything other than the bride. I didn't see the point, I would never be a groom, why play one? So, being the wonderful big sister she is, she would don a long coat, I'd put a sock on my head for a veil, and we'd march down the aisle, with my younger sister, Erin, playing the roles of flower-girl, bridesmaid, and officiant all at once.
I'm not sure what is was, but either way, she was right. I am the first of my parent's children to get married (Unless something unforeseen happens, and one of my sisters suddenly elopes.)
I'm getting married on June 14th, 2015, to the most wonderful man in the world.
Since last November 16th, 2013, I've been planning my wedding. It's been fun. Sometimes frustrating, sometimes scary, sometimes the least stressful thing ever, sometimes the most. It seemed appropriate to translate my thoughts on planning, weddings, and engagements in general, down in written form.
Also, I'm planning on this becoming a widely popular blog, read by millions. After all, most people get married. And most people need a place to turn to when deciding if they should have red velvet cake, or chocolate.
